What is the difference between Cosmetic Teeth Whitening and a Dentist Teeth Whitening treatment?

The difference between the cosmetic and the dentist range is the strength of the active ingredient Hydrogen Peroxide (HP). The Signature Treatment uses 6% HP which is the maximum legal strength for over-the-counter cosmetic teeth whitening products in Australia.

Dentists are not restricted to the concentration of HP in the teeth whitening products they use. PureSmile Dentist Teeth Whitening uses 16%, 25% (equivalent to Phillips Zoom) or 38% HP gel which is one of the strongest teeth whitening gel in the industry. Based on clients tooth sensitivity the dentist will determine which gel is the best fit for the client during the consultation.

You can expect excellent results with cosmetic teeth whitening treatment and a more of bleached look with the dentist range. The dentist range is also recommended for teeth with a very high level of staining.

Do I need to get a dental clean before my teeth whitening treatment?

Australian Dental Association (ADA) recommends professional dental clean every 6 months. We strongly recommend a dental clean prior to any teeth whitening if you are due for one. This will help you achieve a better and longer-lasting result.

PDO Mono threads FAQ's

How are PDO Mono threads performed?

The skin is cleaned and numbing cream is applied to the area. The PDO threads are placed into the skin using a small introducer. Once the introducer is inserted the PDO threads remain in the skin.

When will I see results?

You will begin to see results in 6-weeks which continue to improve over the next 2 to 6 months as new collagen is produced. Although the Matrix PDO Threads will slowly dissolve you will continue to see results for up to 12 months.

When can I have a dermal filler treatment in the treated area?

You can have a dermal filler (hyaluronic acid) treatment at the same time. There is no restriction on the time between treatments.

Is there downtime with PDO mono threads?

During the procedure, the skin is punctured in order to introduce the threads into the skin. This can cause slight swelling and bruising in the treatment area. This can take up to two weeks to resolve. light make up can be used on the treatment area the day after the procedure.

Can I work out after my treatment?

Avoid working out for 24- 48 hours post-treatment.

What do I need to avoid after having my treatment?

Avoid oil-based moisturiser or make up for 24 hours after your treatment.

Avoid Saunas or heat treatments for 3 weeks.

Avoid facials or facial massages for 5 days.

How long does the procedure take?

This will depend on the number of threads.
Typically a full face of threads requires about 30-45 min

What can I expect before treatment?

Before treatment starts, we will apply a topical numbing agent and local anaesthetic to the treatment site. The needle used during this treatment is so fine it will not cause any pain. However, we provide anaesthesia to ensure you feel no discomfort during the treatment.

What should I do before treatment?

Since PDO thread lifts are non-invasive, there isn’t a lot you need to do to prepare. However, there are some precautionary measures you can take to ensure the best results from your treatment. Here are things you should avoid one to two days before treatment:

  • Alcohol

  • Omega fish oil supplements

  • Chinese medicine

  • Vitamin E

  • High-intensity workouts

  • Steam rooms and saunas

What patients are suitable and will benefit from this procedure?

Anyone. It can be done as a treatment for a suitably volumised patient who needs tightening or for skin improvement, or as a preventive procedure to prevent the face from sagging

Medical Skin Peels and Facial FAQ's

What are chemical peels?

Chemical peels are a method of regenerating and resurfacing the skin by inducing a controlled wound to the skin. They remove the top layers of skin to help induce collagen remodelling and therefore improve sun-damaged skin, skin pigmentation problems, wrinkles, skin texture, and the overall appearance of the skin. The strength of the chemical peel will determine its depth. Deeper peels will have a greater number of complications and a longer recovery, but also will result in a greater improvement in the skin.

What types of chemical peels are there?

There are several types of chemical peels each suited to different skin problems and types. Chemical peels also vary in strength and are classified as superficial, medium, and deep according to the level of skin they reach.

What should I expect during treatment?

Procedures may vary dependent on the type of chemical peel chosen. Skin is prepped using a medical degreaser to ensure the treated area is free of any oils left on the skin. The chemical agent is then applied and typically remains on the skin for 3 to 5 minutes. Most patients feel a mild stinging which is temporary and usually subsides after a few minutes. Some peels are designed to self neutralize and may remain on your skin for 2-4 hours.

How long is the recovery after a chemical peel and what type of care is necessary?

Recovery times will vary based on the type and strength of the peel. Immediately after the peel, your skin will feel tight and may be red. Any visible peeling will be light and fluffy and easily controlled with moisturizer. Peeling usually lasts 3-5 days, depending on the actual peel treatment. Use of gentle cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen are important, as it will enhance the healing process and results. Normal activity may be resumed after the peel, however, strenuous exercise and heavy sweating should be avoided for 2-3 days. Sun exposure should be avoided while skin is peeling; exposure of treated skin to a lot of heat should also be avoided as it may induce swelling, redness and for deeper peels blisters under the skin. Peeling skin should be allowed to slough off naturally; picking or peeling of flaking skin is prohibited, as it may lead to scarring. Use of prescription topicals should be avoided for 3-5 days post peel.

Why did I not have any visible peeling after my peel?

The success of the peel should not be judged by the amount of peeling, but by the end results that the peel will produce. The amount of peeling may vary depending on individual skin condition at the time of the peel or the depth of the peel. Regardless of the degree of peeling, the skin is still sloughing off at an accelerated rate, resulting in the improvement of skin tone and texture and an improvement of fine lines and uneven pigmentation.

What products or procedures should I avoid before a chemical peel?

• One week before the peel avoid waxing, electrolysis, deploritory creams, and laser hair removal.
• Two to three days before the peel discontinue using any prescription topicals such as Retin-A, differin or Tazorac, as well as any products containing retinol, alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA), beta hydroxyl acids (BHA) or benzoyl peroxide.
• Patients who have had any medical cosmetic facial treatments or procedures such as Laser treatments, cosmetic fillers or other surgical procedures should wait until skin sensitivity has completely resolved before receiving a peel.

Dermaplaning FAQ's

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that consists of using a scalpel to gently remove the layer of dull, dead skin cells and vellus hair in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion.

Who can have dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types except those with active breakout and men with heavy facial hair. If you have active acne there are other treatments available that would be more beneficial, and it is necessary to wait until breakouts are healed before trying this treatment. As always, also discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities before starting a treatment. This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the use of chemicals.

How is derma planning different from a peel?

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation process that does not use acids or enzymes to remove dead skin cells. All of the exfoliation is achieved during your treatment and you will not peel or visibly shed skin after your service, while Peels can result in dramatic peeling in the days following service. Dermaplaning provides a good alternative to peels for those who desire professional grade exfoliation without the potential social downtime.

What should I expect during my dermaplaning treatment?

Dermaplaning is a painless treatment that includes deep cleansing, professional exfoliation in the form of dermaplaning followed by restorative treatment and finished with skincare suited to your unique skin. Dermaplaning has a similar sensation to close a shave which removes vellus hair and dead skin cells simultaneously.

How long is the treatment?

30 - 45 minutes.

What should I expect after my service?

You’ll immediately look more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture. While the main objective of this treatment is exfoliation, the immediate removal of peach fuzz is an added benefit which renders the skin exceptionally smooth and soft.  Skincare products are better able to penetrate the skin following a dermaplaning service which allows them to work more efficiently. Your makeup will also go on smoother. After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may look pink, so be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.

How should I care for my skin after dermaplaning service?

After a Dermaplaning treatment your skin needs time to heal and restore. Treat the skin gently, using only hands to cleanse for at least 2 days and wearing sunscreen every day.

Will my hair grow back thicker and darker?

No, dermaplaning will not alter your natural hair growth. As we remove the vellus hair in the same direction as the hair grows, this ensures it will not grow back thicker or darker.

How often should I get dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning removes 21 days worth of dead skin cells, so it’s best to allow the skin to complete its rejuvenation cycle before your next treatment
